Registration of stay for EU citizens

Registration of stay for EU citizens

The application for registration of stay should be submitted in person to the voivode competent for the place of stay of the European Union citizen. The application should be submitted no later than on the next day after 3 months from the date of entry to the territory of Poland. Minors are exempt from the requirement to submit an application in person.

The obligation to register residence does not apply to an EU citizen staying in the territory of Poland for the purpose of looking for a job, who can stay in Poland without meeting the conditions of stay for no more than 6 months (or longer if he shows that he is actively continuing to look for a job and has a real chance of employment).

By definition, an EU citizen should be understood as a foreigner who is a citizen of another EU / EEA Member State or Switzerland. According to Polish law, a foreigner is anyone who does not have Polish citizenship.

Stay under 3 months:

EU citizens and their family members who are not EU citizens may stay in Poland up to 3 months without having to meet any residence conditions other than having a valid travel document. A citizen of the European Union may have another valid document confirming citizenship and identity..

Stay more than 3 months:

If the stay on Polish territory lasts longer than 3 months, the EU citizen and his family member holding EU citizenship are required to register their stay. A family member who is not an EU citizen is required to obtain a residence card of a family member of an EU citizen.
